About Dr Ilya Hubczenko
Dr Ilya Hubczenko was born and raised in Adelaide and is proud to have spent much of his medical career caring for patients within his local community. Raised by hardworking immigrant parents alongside three siblings, Ilya developed a strong appreciation for family, community and the importance of supporting others from an early age. He completed his medical degree through the University of Adelaide in 1991 before pursuing General Practice training, driven by his passion for treating the whole patient rather than focusing solely on individual conditions. He obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1993 and began working within Windsor Village Medical Centre and Oakden Medical Centre in 1992. In 1998, he became a Practice Principal. Dr Ilya has played an important role in the development of asthma care within the practice, establishing South Australia’s first dedicated GP-based Asthma Clinic in 1994 alongside Asthma Educator Karen Pippett. His broader clinical interests include chronic disease management, aged care, preventative healthcare and helping patients better understand and manage their health over time. Fluent in both English and Russian, Dr Ilya is also able to support Russian-speaking patients who prefer discussing their healthcare in their first language. Outside of medicine, he enjoys chess, board games with his two sons, dancing, science fiction, walking and sharing a good joke.
