About Karen Pippett RN

Karen Pippett completed her Registered Nurse training at the Adelaide Children’s Hospital in 1987 and has worked in General Practice since 1994. Over the years, she has developed extensive experience in respiratory health, chronic disease management, wound care and patient education, while also balancing her professional life with raising her three children. In 1994, Karen worked alongside Dr Ilya Hubczenko to establish South Australia’s first dedicated GP-based Asthma Clinic. The clinic has continued for decades and is now based at Oakden Medical Centre, where it operates every Friday afternoon. The Asthma Clinic supports patients who are experiencing difficulty controlling their asthma, require further education about their condition or would benefit from ongoing monitoring and management. The clinic also accepts referrals from healthcare organisations including the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and asthma support services. Karen is an Accredited Asthma Educator & Trainer and has remained actively involved in respiratory health education throughout her career. She has contributed to professional respiratory health networks and maintains a strong interest in helping patients and families understand asthma, improve self-management and feel more confident in their ongoing care. Outside of work, Karen enjoys tap dancing, ballroom dancing and supporting her children in their sporting activities and hobbies.
